FPS Gun Mechanics: Introduction

I've decided that this might be the best place to put something like this out, seeing as I have a few observations on the matter that I feel should be more formally categorized than simply brought up in conversation.

Essentially, this series is going to be about firearms in video games. However, rather than being a place where one can rant about all of the issues that arise between real firearms and firearms in video games, this will be more about what exactly makes a good video game gun. This means both good, as in effective, and good, as in enjoyable, as I believe that both can be accomplished. However, a balance has to be reached between the two to keep a game both fun and competitive. Furthermore, in light of Killing Floor 2's early access release on steam, I'd like to touch upon my thoughts as I believe that tripwire has done an exceptional job of producing video game firearms, with a few exceptions. This will also briefly deal with the way targets react to guns, as I think that that is a very important part of the subject.

This is an initial post. I don't want to throw everything down immediately, because I'd like more time to gather resources to use here. I hope you'll find it interesting, whoever you are.

The Battle of Tukayyid

Mechwarrior Online's newest event - The Battle of Tukayyid - begins today. Specifics can be found here.

This event is meant to showcase the relatively new Community Warfare system over a single planet, thereby putting all players into a single fight, as opposed to the faction-specific isolated battles found during the standard CW mode.

The Battle of Tukayyid is also a significant Battletech event, being a significant turning point in the IS's war against the Clans.

Welcome to a barren wasteland.

Hopefully, this will be populated relatively quickly.

My name is Indigo (no really, it is) and I typically go by Tekky in a myriad of PC games, be they free or paid, RPG, RTS, FPS, or any other genre of easily mislabeled acronym. I've had a computer since I was 1, oddly, and I didn't really start playing pc games until I was 6 on a clamshell iBook. That said, I used to be rather big on console games, and I tend to return to them on and off.

I have a reputation for getting absurdly angry at random bullshit in-game, but that has more or less given way to being extremely irritating on Ventrimumraidspeakype. I tend to avoid drama surrounding video games, but a lot of it is pretty hilarious and great to watch from a distance. See anything regarding gamergate.

I have a massive selection of steam games, I tend to stream at random times on twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/tekmaster99 if you're ever supremely bored), I don't bother updating youtube because I have the attention span of a house cat and therefore cannot comprehend Movie Maker.

In other news, I plan to begin a massive review fest of my steam games, #-Z, in an attempt to give value to the many games stuffed into packs that have been picked up on sales.

On the topic of steam, I made a post on Sturgeon's House regarding the absolutely absurd system for purchasing workshop content put out today. It can be found here. I couldn't really keep it concise as I started vomiting words at my screen upon receiving the most recent steam update.
